Teaching Tools for Successful Schools: Virtual Office

In February 2000, the Georgia State Department of Education and Governor Sonny Purdue awarded the Virtual Office program with a Teaching Tools for Successful Schools award for being one of the top 100 programs in the state of Georgia and worthy of replication.

People Magazine's Most Innovative Program Award

I created the Virtual Office program, an equity in technological access and leadership program, in 1997 at Central Middle School in Thomas County Georgia. The program was essential in assisting my at-risk students achieve great success in school and the community. In December 1999, People Magazine awarded us with a Most Innovative Program award and nearly $10,000 to further our efforts. The awards ceremony was held in May 2000.

Flowers Industries Award

In September 1998, Flowers Industries, Inc. awarded my husband, Claude Gonzalez, and me their Good Citizens Award along with $8,000 and twelve computer stations to support the Communities in Schools Virtual Office program at Central Middle School in Thomas County Georgia.
